FIRS shuts 3 offices in Adamawa over insurgency

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has shut three of its offices in Adamawa because of insurgency, adding that that it lost revenue worth hundreds of millions of naira due to the insecurity in the state.

Malam Sadig Mohammed, the Tax Controller in charge of FIRS Micro and Small Tax Office, Yola, who made the disclosure to NAN on Monday in Yola, said that the affected offices were located in Mubi North, Madagali and Michika Local Government Areas.

He expressed concern that the development was adversely affecting the revenue generation of the office in the state considering the business activities in the areas.

“The insecurity being witnessed in the North-East region and some parts of the state in particular has forced the FIRS to shut down three of its offices in Mubi North, Madagali and Michika. Due to the development, the FIRS has lost hundreds of millions of naira,” Mohammed said.

On tax evasion, he said that the service was adopting new measures to ensure that all eligible tax payers remitted their payment appropriately.
