The city of Lagos is about to experience the largest outdoor theatre festival to take place in Nigeria, courtesy of FirstBank and British Council.

With the partnership, all of Lagos will turn into a big stage as live theatre takes over different venues across the city.

FirstBank of Nigeria is passionate about the arts and is committed to promoting the Creative Arts Industry through its strategic initiative- First@arts.

To make this happen, it is partnering with the British Council as part of the UK/Nigeria 2015-16 season of arts to organize the Lagos Theatre Festival 2016.

The Lagos Theatre Festival will take place from February 22nd to 28th at the following venues: Agip Recital Hall MUSON, Ayo Bankole Centre, Bogobiri, British Council, Ten venues within Freedom Park (Ten venues), Mindscapes Children Museum, TerraKulture and UNILAG. It will be a festival of Six days, over Fifteen venues with over 100 performances.

Highlights of the festival include: Every Single Day, a play exploring what it means to be a woman in the 21st -century in a society reluctant to adopt global ideals about equality, The Wait , where they explore the theme of inter class marriage. All the stories this year capture the realities of the upwardly mobile Lagosian and their stories.

As a special, the festival highlights also include International plays, two of which are: I Dream of Lagos, a play by British company Invisible Flock, delivered through mobile phones and Purge , an international play where you can keep or delete a social media personality’s followers – which has been billed as the” world’s most brutal game of friendship maintenance”.

The festival has something for everyone showcasing productions cutting across music, dance, drama, as well as family-friendly storytelling and performance pieces.
