The Cooperative and Multipurpose Society (CMS) of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), recently rolled out the drums to celebrate its 30th anniversary amidst pomp and pageantry while commissioning its Secretariat Complex and celebrating its 30 years of existence as an organisation.
Speaking at the occasion, President of the Society; Samuel Ayodele commended members of the Society for achieving such feat. He also lauded the University Management under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape and other Principal Officers for their support:
His words “Our Society has been flourishing and developing better with adequate management by the current executive members and prompt release of our check off by FUTA Management.”
Ayodele stated that FUTA CMS LTD was formed in 1984 and was registered as a Cooperative Society in November, 1986 under the leadership of late Prof. L. B. Opeke, the very first President.
He added that the Cooperative is a self-help organization with good people mutually relating together for their social economic well-being and for the good of their communities, providing amenities such as housing, food and security for members.
The President disclosed that the idea of having a befitting secretariat building was conceived by the immediate past administration led by the then President, Dr. S. A. Anjorin and described its completion and commissioning as a celebration of a fulfilled dream and a tangible and concrete manifestation of a bold idea, continuity in governance and cooperation for excellence.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Olatunde Arayela said that the achievement is worthy of emulation, acknowledging the ingenuity of the past and present leadership of the society.
He also said that pragmatic steps must be taken to maintain and achieve the set goals of the society. He promised that Management will always at all-time assist the Society in each phase of its developmental projects.
In a good will message the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry Dr. (Mrs.) Dupe Eshiofonie said that Cooperative Society are the engine that keep the economy running.
He said the numerous achievements of Nigerian workers will not be possible without the driving force of Cooperative Societies. The Governor commended the FUTA CMS for its enviable edifice and urged it not to relent in the commitment to better the lives of its members.
