The former Commissioner for transport and Aviation in Rivers State, Barrister Glory Emeh has condemned the new wave of politics of blackmail in the state, describing it as not only wicked but a primitive drawback for the people of the state.
Chief Emeh, who spoke with Airport Correspondents in Port Harcourt over the weekend, expressed concern that rather than promote brotherly love and truthfulness, our people have decided to tow the path of wickedly indulging in politics of campaign of calumny.
“What we are seeing today is alien to our state and her people. We have never experienced this height of unnecessary hatred, in a game that our forbearers had in their days made very attractive and inviting.”
Chief Emeh who was also a former Chief of Staff in the Rivers State Government described the gang-up against former Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi as having no justification in law, facts and morality and therefore any attempt against the will of God, will in a natural repercussion attract the wrath of God.
“Ín his words, he said; “Our laws are clear as to when a person is confirmed guilty of an offence which will attract sanctions. This is why the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki is still presiding over the affairs of the Senate even when he is standing trial in a court of competent jurisdiction in Nigeria.
“I believe there are no two types of rule of law. A person is considered innocent until he is found guilty even when his trial has commenced.
“If Dr. Saraki continues to keep Amaechi waiting because he is expecting a report based on a spurious petition, it means that he also should vacate his seat in the Senate until his case at the Code of Conduct Bureau is determined.
“It is interesting to note that in the case of Amaechi’s confirmation for the ministerial appointment, the Spokesperson for the Senate has since confirmed that the report of the Ethics and Privileges Committee is ready and has also cleared Rt. Hon. Amaechi for screening, stressing that the said report is a one-line document which explains that the matter in question is in court and as a standing rule in the Senate, it will amount to subjudice if the Senate entertains any petition on such matter.
Chief Glory Emeh, a Lawyer who had been severally described as one of the engine rooms of Rivers politics, advised the new crop of politicians in the state to ditch the politics of selfish and hatred.
He wondered how politicians who professed to being Christians will brazenly forge non-existing court order and cause that to be circulated to unsuspecting Nigerians just to create confusion and described such action as criminal and ungodly.
Chief Emeh said that Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi’s ministerial position is for the benefit of the River State people in particular and Nigerians in general.
“His proven vision and vast experience in governance will be of utmost benefit not only to the people of the state, but to the entire South South region, particularly against the back drop of his enormous contribution to the emergence of what we have today as the ruling APC,” he said.
