Governor of Abia State Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has disputed assertions made by Senate Chief Whip Orji Uzor Kalu that he will back Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress in the upcoming presidential election.

Ikpeazu, a member of the G-5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party who are upset, called the statement attributed to Kalu “wishful thinking.”

The lawmaker stated, “Tinubu is popular in the North, is from the South-West, and is going to get a [considerable] vote in Imo, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, and Enugu,” in an interview with Channels Television on Monday. We’re on the right track because he will have the backing of Rivers State Governor Wike.

“My governor, Okezie Ikepazu, will back Tinubu as well. “Tinubu will receive the vote from my senatorial district, the puncher to give the 34, 35 percent to be on the ballot,” he remarked.

Speaking after looking over the continuing final asphalt overlay on Faulks Road in Aba, Ikpeazu refuted the assertion by asserting that “no member of the G5 can railroad another member into supporting anyone against his will as indicated by Senator Kalu.”

The Abia State PDP Campaign Council’s Director of Strategic Engagement, Chief John Kalu, defended Ikeazu and asserted that the allegations were purely political.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Ikpeazu has not and will not support Tinubu because he is a leader who is motivated by his constituents’ sentiments.

“PDP remains formidable, and all of our candidates in the next elections hold extremely great prospects of winning, in Abia,” he concluded.
