The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday in Abuja said it has signed a two-year contract with German coach Gernot Rohr to work as the Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser.

It said in a statement by its Assistant Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, that “the simple ceremony” was held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

“It saw NFF President Amaju Pinnick and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi signing on behalf of NFF, in-between Rohr’s own signature.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NFF’s Technical and Development Committee had on Saturday recommended the German who had formerly coached Gabon, Niger and Burkina Faso.

Speaking on the appointment, Pinnick said the former German defender had been handed a target of leading the Eagles to qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.

“We are happy that this has been sealed and we can now focus on other arrangements for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers starting in October,” he said.

NFF added in the statement that Rohr had also coached top French club Girondins Bordeaux and elite Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel.

It said the 63-year-old Rohr would step out with the Eagles for the first time when Nigeria host Tanzania in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Port Harcourt.

Both teams are already out of the running for the tournament, but the match will serves as a test game for the Eagles ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

They face Zambia away on Oct. 3, before taking on Cameroon and Algeria in the qualifying race.

The federation also said Rohr has been scheduled to “embark on VIP scouting immediately.

“This includes flying to Spain to watch the NPFL All-Stars side play against Atletico Madrid and Malaga in Cadiz on Friday, in the Trofoe Carranza tournament,” it said
