Ikio, the 74-year old mother of Samuel Walter, the controversial King of Agrisaba community, Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, has been abducted by gunmen.

It was learnt that the septuagenarian was whisked away along with her granddaughter identified as Rose Joseph.

Youths from the community, which is under the Mini-Ikensi Rural Development Authority, were said to be combing the creeks to locate the whereabouts of the aged mother and her granddaughter.

The hoodlums were said to have arrived the community at 3am on Sunday through the waterways.

A source from the community said the gunmen went straight to the house of their victim which he said is located close to the creeks.

“They didn’t shoot any bullet. The house of the woman is close to the creeks so it was easy for them to access it through the waterways.

“They bundled the woman and her granddaughter into a speedboat and fled to an unknown place,” the source who pleaded anonymity said.

Agrisaba, a riverine community, has been embroiled in a kingship tussle with many of the chiefs condemning the process that led to the emergence of Walter as their king.

Many of the chiefs had also fled the community after they were attacked by youths said to be loyal to the king.

One of the chiefs condemned the kidnapping and said such incidents were painting the state in bad light.

But the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Hillary Opara, said the police officials were investigating the development.
