Gunmen abduct secondary school students from hostels in Lagos

No fewer than three students of the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, were reportedly abducted from their hostels by armed gunmen on Monday night.

The gunmen, according to sources, stormed the school at about 8pm and took three female students along with them.

The school, located at Agunfoye-Lugbusi village, is owned by the Anglican Communion, Lagos Diocese.

New Mail gathered that a similar attempt to kidnapped students of the school was foiled about a month ago.

The source told our correspondent that the gunmen had scaled the fence and attempted to grab one of the students who then raised alarm, forcing the abductors to flee’

The the motive behind the kidnappers focus on the school could not be immediately established, our correspondent learnt that their focus might be the children of a relative of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode believed to be in the school.

In fact, the source was emphatic that the school authority had to immediately alert the Governor’s brother, who in turn reportedly spoke with Governor Ambode, who immediately ordered massive police deployment to hunt for the kidnappers.

The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the development, said detectives have swung into action to secure the release of the girls.

The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, was said to have spent the better part of the night in the school and surrounding bushes and villages in search of the girls.
