Hooded gunmen attack Oshodi, freely deploy guns, machetes, axes

The popular Oshodi area of Lagos State is currently under siege as hoodlums in hoods and armed with guns, axes, machetes and other dangerous weapons took over some busy areas of Oshodi.

The incident, which our correspondent gathered, started as early as 6.00am on Thursday, started from the Charity Bus Stop, from where the hoodlums attacked those heading to work.

The pandemonium that ensued made many commercial drivers to hurriedly discharged their passengers and fled in horror, with some running into themselves, even as shop owners quickly shut down.

As at the time of filing this report, the hoodlums have moved further inwards Oshodi, shooting sporadically and attacking people.

The cause of the fight was yet to be established as at press time. So also was the identity of the hoodlums or group they belong to yet to be established at at press time.

But a source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the hoodlums were led by some PDP agents including one Essy oluwo, Emijo, Skul boy gbolahan, Okanla and oosha.

Some however claimed they are members of the Oodua Peoples Congress, a claim a top member of the group disproved. Sources said they believed the attack was to prepare the ground for a rally of a group in the area.

Some shop owners said they had been told some days back not to open as there would be a rally they must attend.

Policemen, acting on a tip-off that there would be violence on Thursday had on Wednesday (yesterday) arrested some suspected hoodlums in the area.

Those arrested were reportedly picked up close to the international airport in Mafoluku area.
