The Director of Public Affairs of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Reuben Muoka, shone like a star in Abuja, awarded the prestigious ‘Distinguished Spokesperson in Technology Award’ by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

The NIPR National Spokesperson Summit served as a forum for fostering dialogue, innovation, and collaboration towards advancing the practice of Public Relations in Nigeria and beyond.

The event, which was put together by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), with the theme: “Change Narratives, Change Society,”  witnessed the Institute honouring journalists and Public Relations practitioners who distinguished themselves as spokespersons in their various professional fields.

Dr. Reuben, who was among the other awardees, had also received a fellowship from the Egyptian Embassy in Nigeria to undertake a Pan-African training and tour of Egypt in 1999, which culminated in his receiving an award of a continental Diploma Certificate in Journalism at the instance of the Egyptian Ministry of Information, and the African Journalists Union (AJU) in Cairo, Egypt.

Muoka was also appointed to head the Special Duties Department, which superintends the International Relations Unit; Emergency Communication Centres Unit; the Public Private Partnership Unit; and the Security Services Unit of the Commission, in 2021, and was later promoted to the position of Director of the Department.

Dr. Mouka was on redeployment to head the Public Affairs Department of the NCC, an arm of the Commission, which was mandated to manage the image and visibility of Nigeria’s telecom regulator.

He, thus, brought to bear his wealth of experience in both traditional journalism, public relations, integrated marketing communications (IMC), corporate communications and people management, on the Commission’s vision to expand the frontiers of its public goodwill and the impact of its reputational assets.

Muoka is a bona fide member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ); a full member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (mnipr); and an associate member of the Registered Practitioners of Advertising (arpa), regulated by the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).
