The Independent National Electoral Commission has started distributing sensitive materials to the 18 local government areas in Cross River State ahead of the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.

It began on Wednesday at the INEC state offices in Calabar with the loading of BVAS devices into vehicles.

As of the time of this report, other sensitive items stored in the Central Bank of Nigeria’s state branch were apparently about to be transported with the BVAS to local government regions.

Political party representatives and representatives of the security services were present for the drill.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Gabriel Yomere, reiterated the security agencies’ caution before the documents were handed, saying that “no big man would be allowed to come out on election day with his orderly.”

He claimed that the logistical issue had been resolved, and everything was in place for elections to go off without a hitch.

According to ACP Kabiru Ibrahim, a representative of the state commissioner of police, sufficient preparations have been done to ensure security during the election period.
