The new President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Mr Eric Omare, on Wednesday urged aggrieved members and stakeholders to close ranks to strengthen the council.
Omare told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa that the new IYC executive would accord reconciliation of aggrieved members a priority.
He said that former presidents, elders, leaders of thought and stakeholders have vital role to play in bringing about harmony in the Ijaw land.
The IYC president said he had started the process of reconciling all warring factions, and appealed to everyone to join hands in restoring peace and harmony in Ijawland.
“This task cannot be completed without the support of all, especially those who fall within the category of former leaders and elders.
“It is my conviction that the elders should play an impartial role by bringing all warring parties to a common position rather than going into the arena of conflicts.
“The activities of the past few days clearly point in this direction and it is not a good signal for the council, nay the Ijaw nation in general,” Omare said.
He said that his doors would remain open to constructive dialogue to bring permanent peace to the IYC.
