Jigawa Speaker weeps as Lamido presents last budget

The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Adamu Ahmad Sarawa, on Wednesday wept profusely as Governor Sule Lamido presented his last annual budget proposal of N162.9 billion to the state assembly.

Presenting the proposed budget, Lamido said it was carefully designed in view of the nation’s economic situation and also focused on the completion of all the ongoing projects started by his out-going administration in the state.

He explained that the proposed budget which is 13 per cent below the 2014 budget, is expected to boost the economic and social development of the state in accordance with Comprehensive Development Framework (CDF).

He revealed that the total size of the state budget for 2015 is N99.95bn in which the recurrent expenditure has 58 per cent while capital project received less than 42 per cent of the budget.

The governor also presented N63.013 billion as 2015 proposed budget for the 27 local governments area of the state.

Speaking after receiving the budget proposal, Sarawa commended the governor for demonstrating exemplary leadership, which had transformed the state in the last seven years.

The speaker, who was over taken by emotions because he would miss the governor, described him (Lamido) as a caring father, mentor and founding father of the ‘modern Jigawa State’ whose name would remain indelible in the history of the state.

Sarawa promised that the assembly would do justice to the budget by following all the normal procedures and passed it into law within shortest period of time.

He called on the people of the state to rally round the governor and vote wisely in the forthcoming elections.
