Former Governor of Lagos and an All Progressives Congress national leader, Bola Tinubu, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to resign and go back home, saying Nigeria was in dire need of a strong leader.
Tinubu said the APC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, would win fair and square in the February 2015 election.
This is just as the Speaker of House of Representatives and APC governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, said those mulling for an interim government should forget it as elections would be conducted in the country next month.
Addressing party supporters during the commencement of APC governorship campaign at the Trade Fair Complex, Sokoto, Tinubu maintained that Jonathan should as a matter of urgency quit the stage, as he had failed his generation.
According to him, Jonathan was still struggling to grapple with the responsibility of the office bestowed on him and should quit the stage before it was too late.
He described as laughable the recent remarks by Jonathan in Lagos that Buhari did not buy a single rifle during his stint as the Head of State, saying the APC presidential candidate was able to tackle the Maitasine problem over 30 years ago.
“Let me respond to what Jonathan said in Lagos. Jonathan got angry after admitting his failure. It is Jonathan who failed Nigerians and not our generation because if a man does not know the responsibilities of an office, let him quit.
“He was busy talking about what happened 30 years ago, he said no single rifle was bought by Buhari 30 years ago but if it is only one rifle that we need to defeat Boko Haram, let him reverse our budget.
“Buhari fought gallantly in the past and we believe that we should bring him back to fight for us. If Jonathan doesn’t know the devastation going on in the North-east, then he should quit and go home.
“But if he refuses to quit, I pledge to you that with the broom in our hands and God on our side, we will sweep the failures of PDP. We will win in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Abuja, Kaduna, Sokoto and all over the country,” Tinubu said.
The APC national leader averred that Nigeria was in dire need of change and that Buhari would make that change possible, adding: “APC will change Jonathan and it is the cure for the disease bedevilling Nigeria.”
He described Tambuwal as a dedicated and committed Nigerian who would deliver to the people of Sokoto.
In a remark, Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, expressed confidence that Tambuwal would deliver and move the state forward.
He advised the, people not to sell their voters card, saying it was the only weapon they could use to vote out the PDP.
Also speaking, Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, said Nigerians had resolved to shun ethnicity and vote for a competent candidate who would bring change in the country.
“In Edo, Calabar, Bayelsa, Enugu, Kaduna, Lagos States, Nigerians have spoken that they want change and Buhari is the man they will vote for,” Oshiomole said.
In his remark, Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, stated that APC would bring an end to the insecurity bedeviling the country.
He emphasised that Tambuwal has what it takes to consolidate on what Wamakko had achieved in the last seven years.
Commenting shortly after being presented as the party’s standard bearer to APC supporters in the state, Tambuwal averred that election would hold next month, adding that those individuals mulling for an interim government should forget it, as there is no such provision in the constitution.
He pledged to consolidate on Wamakko’s achievement, saying he would run a transparent and open government if given the mandate.
“Justice, equity and fairness will be our watchword that will guide our administration. We shall create jobs and provide conducive environment as well as sustain the peace in Sokoto,” Tambuwal added
