President Goodlcuk Jonathan has disputed reports that there was a bomb explosion close to a polling unit at Enugu State on Saturday morning.

Jonathan spoke to journalists after he and his wife, Patience, cast their votes in the presidential elections at Otuoke, Bayelsa.

The president also said the Boko Haram attacks carried out in Gombe on Saturday morning were isolated cases. He said voters were not the the target of the attacks. He, however, said there was a combat between the insurgents and security operatives.

He said, “I heard that there was an explosion but I asked the Governor and he said there was no blast in Enugu.

“What happened in Gombe State is that, you know that the war against terrorism is still ongoing, and the military was accosted by militants. It has nothing to do with the election”.

A Honda car driven by yet to be identified persons and conveying items suspected to be improvised explosive devices (IED), exploded shattering the said vehicle on the road behind the WTC School polling station at the Ogui, Enugu.

Meanwhile, Enugu State police commissioner, Dan Bature, confirmed the news of the explosion but said there was no casualty.
It was gathered that due to the heavy presence of security operatives at the venue, the drivers of the vehicle could not gain access to the polling area but had to park the vehicle and left before the blast occurred
