The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Engineer Andrew Yakub has been relieved of his appointment.
In his place, President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointments of Dr Joseph Thlama Dawha as the new NNPC boss.
As at the time of filing this report, details of what led to the former NNPC boss’s sack was still kept under wraps.
However, a top staff within the corporation who spoke with New Mail Nigeria under strict anonymity said that the sacked NNPC boss had been having running battle with the Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke for some time now.
“As I am talking to you, no one knows exactly what has happened. The only thing we know was that we were supposed to hold a press conference yesterday but was called off at the minister’s instance. Am not even sure the GMD knew about the briefing because non of his office staff was involved in the preparation.
For some time now, the former GMD has been left in the dark about most policy decisions in the oil industry as the minister had taken full control of the NNPC machinery. The MD was just like a figure head, at least, that was what we have observed at close range in the past few months,” said the source.
However, apart from the NNPC, the former boss of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), was also relieved of his position and replaced by Anthony Ugonna Muoneke.
Similarly, two executive directors of the NNPC, Aisha Mata Abdurrahman and Dr Attahir B. Yusuf, swapped positions as Abdurrahman now becomes the Group Executive Director, Commercial and Investment, while Dr Yusuf takes charge as Group Executive Director, New Business.
