President Goodluck Jonathan has removed retired general Martin Luther Agwai as chairman of the Federal Government’s Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).

The President’s special adviser on media and publicity, Reuben Abati who made the announcement, did not explain the reasons for the sack of the former chief of army staff, but sources said Agwai’s sack may not be unconnected with his alleged romance with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Agwai’s sack comes six days after he delivered a lecture at the 78th birthday ceremony of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, titled ‘Imperatives of National Security: Framework for Development and Progress of Nigeria’.

“President Jonathan appoints Ishaya Dare Akau to replace Gen. Martin Agwai as SURE-P Chairman with immediate effect,” he only said.
