The Kaduna State Government has budgeted N5 billion to enhance water supply in the state, the Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources, David Umaru, said on Wednesday in Kaduna.
Umaru stated this when members of the committee inspected water projects in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna.
He said that the state government was working hard to ensure improved water supply in the state, and commended the level of work at the site.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Ado Audu, said that the inspection team had visited other areas including Kafanchan, Kwoi, Machok, Fadan Kagoma and Saminaka.
Audu said that the visit to Birnin Gwari was in continuation of inspection tours of ongoing water projects in the state.
He commended the contractor for installing seven of the required 10 tube wells to start off the dam but cautioned the contractor against the use of substandard materials to prevent a recurrence of the problem noticed at Saminaka.
The Emir of Birnin Gwari, Zubairu Maigwari, lauded the state government for keeping its promise to meet the water supply needs of the community.
Maigwari said that the ongoing project would help to boost economic activities in Birnin Gwari, adding that it would also fast track development in the state.
