Kaduna State Government on Sunday imposed a 24-hour curfew on Kachia Local Government Area and its environment.
The Director-General on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Ahmed Maiyaki, who stated this in Kaduna, said the curfew became imperative following crisis in the area which led to the burning of various structures on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Gov. Mukhtar Yero had earlier in a statement issued by Maiyaki, called on the people to shun attempt to create misunderstanding and cause confusion in the state.
The governor said that the state government had brought the situation under control.
He said that government was already working with all security agencies to ensure the protection of life and property of the people.
“Government will not fold its arms and allow `enemies of peace’ to cause mayhem in our state. I call on all law-abiding citizens to go about their businesses without fear of intimidation as security forces have been directed to deal decisively with trouble makers.
“No matter their status in the society, we will no longer tolerate these acts of unwarranted violence against innocent citizens, enough is enough,” he said.
The governor further urged the people in the state to continue to coexist peacefully, irrespective of diversities.
Yero said that differences in tribe or religion should not affect the common aspirations of the people to live in peace and tranquility.
“The state government will continue to pursue its peace building agenda and will not rest on its oars until Kaduna is returned to its pre-crises era when all the people lived harmoniously.”
Yero also urged them to support the ongoing peace building process in the state and contribute their quota toward the goal.
