Chairman of PDP in the Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi, Yusuf Tilli, says the party has overturned the impeachment of the Chairman of the area’s local government.
Tilli told newsmen in Bunza that the procedure adopted by the councilors in impeaching the council chairman, Aliyu Raha, was against state and party laws.
The party’s intervention was coming barely 24 hours after eight out of the 10 councilors in the local government impeached the chairman.
The state PDP chairman said the allegations against the chairman were misleading and mere fabrications for cheap political reasons, pointing out that the issues involved were not beyond resolution.
He described the action of the councilors as against the policy of the party which seeks a peaceful resolution of disputes involving the local and state leadership of the PDP.
The state party chairman added that the reversal of the councilors’ decision was sequel to the intervention of the state PDP leadership.
“The councilors who announced the impeachment failed to fulfill the state and party legal requirements,” he said.
The councilors who impeached the council chairman had said that their decision was as a result of his “over mismanagement of funds, sale of council property and poor leadership”.
In a reaction, spokesman of the aggrieved councilors, Mohammed Mohammed, representing Tilli ward, said their action was regrettable, especially in the failure to adhere to legal guidelines.
“We have realised that politics is a game of agreement and disagreement, and we will ensure that disputes are resolved amicably in future,” he said.
