Lagos State Head of Service, Olabowale Ademola has advised students on industrial attachment in the State Public Service to take full advantage of ICT in order to develop themselves.
The Head of Service who gave the charge today in Lagos at a one-day orientation programme for Students on Industrial Attachment/SIWES in the State Public Service also charged them to be hardworking and responsible citizens of the country.
Mrs. Ademola who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Fiyinfoluwa Ogunbanke stressed that technologies are the tools for tomorrow’s workplace adding that only it knowledge and skills will ensure the Students’ continued relevance.
Her words, “as you know, you are the future of Nigeria. I therefore wish to strongly advise you to be very hardworking and responsible,I advise you to eschew vices and all forms of corruption. While the present generation of leaders struggle to keep pace with emerging technologies, they are the toys and playground for your generation. I urge and encourage you therefore to take full advantage of ICT to develop yourselves.So ensure that you put your limited time to maximum use at all times.”
Mrs. Ademola averred that the programme is designed to enhance students’ skills so that they could make meaningful contributions to the development of a public or private organisations such as the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in which they are deployed and by extension to the State.
She opined that the programme was aimed at fostering the spirit of friendship and camaraderie amongst students from different parts of the country thus she urged them to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the programme as well as the longer work placement to acquire critical workplace experience along with other essential attributes such as work ethics,diligence, timeliness, accountability and professionalism, amongst others values.
“Industrial Training experience is an opportunity for students to benefit from the guidance, counseling and mentorship of seasoned and highly experienced administrators and professionals in real work environment.
“It can and indeed should serve to groom them to be resourceful, responsive and responsible human beings and ultimately, part of a labour force that would make meaningfully contributions to the economic development of the nation. It is therefore in this context that the importance of today’s event cannot be over emphasized.
“It is also for this reason that the facilitators and Speakers have been carefully selected. In all, I am convinced that the Programme would be memorable, impactful and life-changing for you,” the Head of Service noted.
