Lagos State Head of Service, Olabowale Ademola has charged Directors of Administration and Human Resource in the State Public Service to chart a way forward on how best the State Government could take advantage of the professionalization of the Human Resource Management (HRM) in line with international best practices.
Mrs. Ademola who gave the charge in Lagos Thursday while declaring opening a 2-day retreat programme for Directors of Administration and Human Resource in the State Public Service noted that an effective and efficient human resource is central to the attainment of the goals and objectives of an organisations hence the charge on the HR experts in the Public Service.
Her words, “It is therefore against this backdrop that the importance of this retreat should be understood. Without a doubt, the effectiveness and efficiency of an Organization’s human resource are not only critical but central to the realization of that Organization’s goals and objectives.
“In the Public Service, there is no gain saying that Government’s bottom line is the effective implementation of policies and programmes in a manner that would ensure the delivery of quality service to the highest number of citizens. To say that your roles, duties and responsibilities in this direction are crucial is to reiterate the obvious.”
She averred that the State Government attaches so much importance to the professionalization of Human Resource Management (HRM) practice in the State hence the reform initiatives undertaken by the State Governor upon assumption of office in 2015.
“The theme of the retreat “Drilling the Reform of Administration and Human Resource in the State Public Service: Managing Performance for Effective Service Delivery”, aptly underlines the importance that the State Government now attaches to professional Human Resource Management practice in the State Public Service.
“You would recall that among the first set of actions taken by His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, at the inception of the present Administration, was his approval for the professionalization of human resource management (HRM) in the State Public Service, among other reforms initiatives,” Mrs. Ademola said.
The Head of Service stressed that the State Government’s support for the professionalization of HRM in the Public Service was a conscious and deliberate action which was meant to further the Government’s vision of a Public Service that is well structured, better organized and whose workers possess the right attitude, skills and motivation to perform their roles efficiently and effectively in tandem with government’s effort at reforming public service administrative structures and core governance processes.
According to her, “as a result of this, the former Department of Finance and Administration in each MDA has now become the Administration and Human Resource Department and one that is charged with the responsibility of ensuring the pro-active professional running of all MDAs as it relates to modern HRM practices towards the realization of Government’s goals and objectives.
She urged the participants to take full advantage of the opportunity provided by the retreat to interact, exchange views and share experiences while mixing and bonding in a way that would create synergies for a mutually and collectively beneficial future in the Public Service.
