Lagos presents vehicles to 16 unions, stresses role of labour unions in wealth creation

Lagos State Government says it appreciates and acknowledges the roles of labour unions in wealth creation, social harmony and economic progress, the State Head of Service, Mrs. Olabowale Ademola has disclosed.

Ademola who spoke in Lagos at the presentation of the first batch of the new utility vehicles to the 16 Unions under the Lagos State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council explained that the realization of these roles informed the State Government’s decision to adopt the policy of harmonious relationship with all trade unions in the State.

The head of Service opined that the adoption of the harmonious relationship has indeed brought about a peaceful government-labour cooperation and collaboration in the State.

”The State Government acknowledges and appreciates the roles of labour unions in the State not only as a rallying point for workers but also as creators of wealth and partners in the strive for social harmony and economic progress.

“And this realisation and appreciation of the roles of the unions informed the State Government’s decision to adopt the policy of harmonious relationship with all trade unions in Lagos State.

“The result no doubt has been the existence of a peaceful government-labour cooperation and collaboration in the State,” Ademola noted.

She pointed out that presentation of the new utility vehicles to the 16 Unions was in furtherance of the policy of harmonious relationship with the unions and a fulfilment of the promise made by the State Governor to the Unions at the second quarterly meeting with the Joint Negotiating Council, (JNC).

Ademola promised that the State Government would continue to ensure that industrial peace exist but however urged workers in the State to reciprocate government’s gesture by renewing their dedication and commitment to duty through improved service delivery to the citizenry.

“I wish to assure you that His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode will continue along this notable path so as to ensure continued industrial peace in the State. Let me add that to whom much is given, much is expected.

“Workers are therefore expected to reciprocate government’s gesture by renewing their dedication and commitment to duty through improved service delivery to the citizenry.”
