Court delivers judgement Jan 21 on suits seeking to declare Rivers 27 lawmakers’ seats vacant

The Federal High court sitting in Port-Harcourt will on January 21, 2025, deliver a judgement on suits seeking to declare the seats of 27 lawmakers in Rivers State vacant.

The Federal High court sitting in Port-Harcourt will on January 21, 2025, deliver a judgement on suits seeking to declare the seats of 27 lawmakers in Rivers State vacant.

The suits were filed separately by Labour Party, Victor Oko-Jumbo and two of his colleagues, Sokari Good Boy and Adolphus Timothy.

The plaintiffs filed the matter to seek judicial interpretation of the alleged defection of the 27 lawmakers led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

When the matter resumed at the court, parties confirmed the exchange of their pleadings and evidence and argued on the points of law.

It was gathered that the video clip of the alleged defection was played in an open court, and the evidence was marked and admitted by the court.

The presiding Judge, Justice Emmanuel Obele adjourned the matter till 21st of January , 2025 for ruling on preliminary issues.
