The governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi has said the senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sen. Magnus Abe is duly qualified to be the governor of the state.
The governor made this statement at the Civic centre in Moscow Road Port Harcourt while addressing over 4574, APC delegates drown from the 100 wards in the state for the Party’s governorship primaries ahead of the 2015 governorship election in the state.
It would be recalled that Abe was been eyed by some APC party faithful to emerge as the party’s consensus candidate, having being close with the state governor.
It is also on record that the choice of Dakuku raised some uproar in the state.
Amaechi said Senator Abe has all it takes to be the governor of the state but added that by the grace of God and that of the people of the state, Dakuku Peterside remains the choice for now.
He also urged Dakuku to ensure that he continues in the battle that the state has for long faced with.
“Senator Magnus Abe is qualified to be the governor of the state. Abe is one of the two personalities I hold at a high esteem and respect so much in the state. I respect him for his intellect but we decided to use Dakuku Peterside.”
“The choice of Dakuku is for the purpose of equity. Equity as it stands in Rivers state demands that it should go to the South-East and he has emerged the consensus candidate of APC in the forth coming election. By the grace of God, very soon, I will be walking behind him as he becomes the governor of the state”.
The governor also urged other aspirants who were not given the opportunity to contest to remain calm till 2019, adding that the chance will be created as it was modest to give return tickets to those who stood by the government during her trial times.
Dakuku Peterside has emerged as the sole candidate of APC in the party’s Primaries conducted ahead of 2015.
He clinched all the votes cast by the delegates to retain his position as the sole candidate of the party.
Announcing the result of the primaries, the chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, commended the governor of the state for making the job easy for them saying the consensus candidature was a new dimension that has brought peace in the party.
