Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu assumed duty in Abuja on Wednesday, with a call for commitment to duty among members of staff.
Magu made the call while taking over the agency from the immediate past Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde.
Magu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police and a pioneer staff of the agency, expressed commitment to win the war against corruption in the country.
“I want to state our resolve not to falter on the well-established tradition of patriotism, dedication, courage and fearlessness, and we will take this responsibility with utmost seriousness that it deserves.
“Corruption cannot co-exist with any meaningful development and as such, must be fought to a standstill.
“There is the need to make sure that whatever is gotten for common use did not end up in private pockets”, he said.
According to him, fighting corruption to a standstill will make the country attractive to foreign investors and there is no better time to do so than now.
Magu, who pledged to work with members of staff of the agency without primordial concerns, added that his administration would not tolerate indiscipline or condone any form of abuse of office.
In his remark, Lamorde called on members of staff to remain patriotic and desist from any form of indiscipline.
“As human beings, we have the right to disagree with each other but if we disagree with our leaders, it is good we approach them ourselves, instead of grumbling,” he said.
According to him, those who engage in such actions are apparently oblivious of the far-reaching impact of their actions, which go beyond the commission and the individual.
He urged members of staff of the commission to support the administration of the new EFCC boss to move the agency forward.
