A South African man, who underwent a penis transplantation has impregnated his girlfriend in what is viewed as a scientific breakthrough.

The 21-year-old man, whose identity is being shielded, was said to have had his original penis damaged and reduced to a centimeter during a traditional circumcision.

He would later undergo a nine-hour surgical penis replacement that was handled by the Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Hospital.

The man’s girlfriend says she is four-months pregnant after having sexual intercourse with him.

The surgeon, Dr. Andre van der Merwe, said the revelation showed the “transplant worked”.

I am “very pleased”, Andre van der Merwe stated. He admitted a paternity test has not been conducted though, the surgeon said there was no need to disbelief the couple.

“This is what we intended, that he should be able to stand up and be able to urinate and have intercourse, so it is a milestone for him,” Van der Merwe told the BBC.
