Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina has tasked the new leadership of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) to project Nigeria’s interest above all else.
Masari who gave the charge in a press statement signed by his Director General, Media and Publicity, Malam Abdu Labaran, in Katsina on Saturday, noted that the reelection of Malam Mustafa Isa as president of the guild was a vote of confidence by his colleagues.
According to him, the reelection is also an indication that the members want more from him in view of his performance during his first tenure.
Masari urged the new president to redouble his efforts and justify the confidence reposed in him by his colleagues.
“I want to use this medium to appeal to editors to help in addressing the precarious security challenges in the country. Editors as gate keepers of conventional media must remain focused in promoting and projecting the good image of our nation above any interest,” he said.
Masari cautioned the media against availing their platforms to unpatriotic elements to advance their narrow interests.
“Let me use this medium to appeal to the editors to take measures to mitigate the decline in journalism practice,” said Masari.
