About 350 Nigerian workers of Chevron Nigeria Limited may soon lose their job, as the company commences its downsizing exercise.
Curiously, sources told our correspondent in Warri, Delta State that the downsizing exercise will affect only Nigerian workers as the over 500 expatriates are said to be spared in the exercise.
Reliable sources said that the job severance measure, entitled Voluntary Separation Package, VSP, started this month and ir is billed to terminate December 12.
Our correspondent gathered that the exercise is already causing friction between the management and its workers, while union officials insist that management was executing an agreement that had not been signed.
Sources said that Chevron management accepted that production was going on smoothly, but that their expenses was eating up their gains, hence the need to downsize to remain in business.
