The Kano government has ordered the closure of all accounts of its ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) “to prevent financial misconduct and ensure transparency”.

Abba Yusuf, governor of the state, spoke at a meeting held at the Kano Government House on Wednesday.

The governor said that the various accounts of MDAs will be merge into a single treasury account, adding that the decision was necessitated by “financial irregularities” observed by his administration.

“The government has taken this step to ensure that funds are managed properly and to eliminate any avenues for financial misconduct,” he said.

The governor warned that non-compliance would result in legal action against the defaulting MDA.

Also speaking, Zayyid Abubakar, chairman of the Kano state Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), introduced a revamped tax collection strategy aligned with the newly implemented unified treasury account.

“This system will help increase revenue for Kano State and curb the misappropriation of government funds,” Abubakar said.

Present at the meeting were high-ranking government officials, including Shehu Sagagi, the governor’s chief of staff, senior ministers, and representatives from the banking sector.
