An Assistant Editor-In-Chief with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ibadan Zonal office, Abdurrahman Balogun, has been conferred with a leadership award from the Mimbar Children School, Ibadan.

The award was bestowed at a courtesy visit of students and staff of the school to the Zonal Office as part of its annual excursion programme.

The Director of the school, Wale Akinlabi, said the essence of conferring the award was to honour members of the society especially in the Islamic community for outstanding role modeling in the Islamic faith.

He said that the award was to recognise Islamic faithful who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields and have given support to youth and child development.

“We have conferred this award on Mr Balogun because of his immense contribution to child and youth development, as you can see, he is a distinguished Islamic faithful.

“Mr Balogun has exemplified his leadership qualities both to our school and the Mosque by helping young people and for the reasons we are honouring him today” he said.

Akinlabi, however, added that the annual excursion was a platform to get the students acquianted with various things going on in their environment.

He said that this year’s excursion was designed to educate the pupils on the role of the media and how they gather and disseminate news.

Balogun, who spoke to the kids after a tour of the organisation, admonished them to keep good company that would help them become better people in life.

“You children should stay away from people who are bad and would not add anything to your life.

“As children you should keep good friends that would help you become great in life,” he said.

The head girl of the school, Toyibat Anifowose, said that she was happy to be a part of the excursion because it opened her eyes to what journalism was all about and what it took to gather and disseminate news.
