Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has gotten the approval of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the regulatory body for technical education, to run courses in Photography and Mineral and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology.
The approval is contained in a letter dated July 21 and addressed to the Rector of the College, Dr. Abdul Adedotun Ibraheem.
In part, the letter reads, “With reference to Resources Inspection exercise carried out by the Board at your Institution from 5th to 9th June 2023, I am directed to inform you that the Board has granted approval to your Institution to offer the following programmes with effect from 2023/2024 academic session.”
The letter signed by Arc Ngbede Ogoh, the Director of Polytechnic Programmes, further added that “Admission of students into the programme should commence from the 2023/2024 session.” Failing this, the Board said that the approval would lapse and admission would not be allowed until another resource inspection is carried out.
Reacting to the approval, Dr. Ibraheem expressed his happiness that the courses were approved by NBTE after a thorough inspection.
He thanked the regulatory body for their cooperation in providing tailor-made courses for the needs of the country and the youths.
The Rector said: “the approval is a testimony to the foresight and the capacity of the college to introduce and teach new courses in line with emerging national and global needs.”
Dr. Ibraheem said the approval would enable the college to develop the skills of the youths; making them competitive globally and at the same time contributing the required manpower that is needed to maximize opportunities in the oil and gas industry.
