Acting Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Folasade Adesoye has asserted that the need to enthrone merit and objectively in staff assessment and promotion informed the introduction of new the Structured Training Programme in place of the hitherto written examination aspect of staff appraisal.

Mrs. Adesoye who spoke in Lagos at the briefing of eligible Officers for Y2017 promotion exercise which is the pilot of the revised promotion exercise explained that the new model of Structure Training has taken into cognizance the essence of an effective Staff Evaluation and Advancement System that is focused on meritorious performance and competitive knowledge.

“Permit me to add that, in line with the vision of the present administration to ensure the enthronement of merit and objectively in staff assessment and promotion, the new model was graciously approved by His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the Governor of Lagos State, in furtherance of his quest for a more vibrant, efficient and proactive Public Service.

“The model has taken into cognizance the essence of an effective Staff Evaluation and Advancement System which is focused on meritorious performance and competitive knowledge.”

The Acting Head of Service noted that the briefing was important as it was intended to further enlighten all eligible Officers, particularly, on the replacement of the hitherto written examination aspect of Staff Appraisal with the Structured Training Program, which she added is in line with global Human Resource (HR) best practices.

Adesoye averred that the policy review is also an affirmation that change is constant and inevitable stressing that the need for Civil Servants to embrace the spirit of hard work, loyalty and total dedication to duty would not only make them better officers but would guarantee their career advancement in the emerging Lagos State Public Service.

“I urge therefore you to take full advantage of the structured training courses which are designed to update your knowledge on the job and encourage growth and professional development. And, as I usually say, the processes, procedures, approaches, practices and solutions with which yesterday’s issues and today’s problems were successfully tackled may be inadequate in addressing emerging challenges and tomorrow‘s needs an ever-changing world,” she said.
