Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger State has called for the cancellation of the use of Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) in the 2015 general elections.

Aliyu, who made the call in Minna while presenting the 2015 appropriation bill to the State House of Assembly, said the hitches encountered during the exercise would disenfranchise majority of eligible Nigerians.

He said the exercise in the state, which kicked off after two postponements, was conducted only in 11 of the 25 local government areas.

“Meanwhile, the Continuous Voters Registration Exercise is also experiencing same fate as non-functional computers, unqualified and uncommitted personnel characterised the exercise with serious implications for the desired outcomes,” he said.

The governor, therefore, suggested the use of the old register and temporary voters card for the 2015 elections, adding that the PVC should be used for later elections.
