Nigerian immigration revokes diplomatic passports from former govt officials

The Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, has directed the immediate withdrawal of diplomatic and official passports held by former government officials.

Those affected with the decision include former state governors; senators, House of Reps members; members of State House of Assemblies, ministers,; commissioners.

Others include Special Advisers and special assistants; chairmen/deputy chairmen of Local Governments areas; all retired heads of parastatals and retired public servants.

A statement signed by MK. Abeshi, Comptroller-General, Immigration Service, stated that the passports which were previously held by them have been “revoked and should return them to the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters Sauka Abuja with immediate effect.

“Failure to comply with this directive will amount to an offence under the Immigration Act 2015, while such unauthorized possession will be impounded at our control posts on arrival or departure.”
