Akwa Ibom State Governor and Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Godswill Akpabio, hse described as mischievous and scandalous the allegation that some of them are working for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, to win the March 28 presidential election.
They also pledged their determination to ensue the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan, who is the PDP candidate in the election.
At a press conference addressed by the party’s National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu in Abuja, Akpabio blamed the opposition for the rumour of disloyalty to the party by some of the governors.
“That is the rumour; it is falsehood, it is baseless, it is evil, it is scandalous,” he said, adding that his colleagues took cognisance of the president’s track record and the fact that in the last four years, no president had achieved as much as he had in Nigerian history in backing his re-election bid.
“The PDP governors across Nigeria have resolved to return President Jonathan to Aso Villa. This is fact and that was why the PDP governors endorsed the president for a second term in office.
“Of course, we are aware of his achievements in the educational sector. The insurgency in the North can only be fought through education and so he established 14 universities, including polytechnics.
“He still went ahead with the establishment of Almajiri schools to ensure that children do not fall easy prey to those who want to go ahead and recruit them into all forms of vices.
“Not only that, we are aware of the massive development in terms of infrastructure. You are aware of what he has done in building new turbines to enable us to solve power issues,” Akpabio added.
He said it was because of the achievements the president that no PDP governor contested the presidential primaries against him.
“It was not because we are not capable but because we felt that the man that is there now delivers the goods to Nigerians. What we are looking for in this country is peace progress and unity,” he said.
