A faction of the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress loyal to former Governor Olusegun Osoba, may have finally resolved to defect to the newly registered Social Democratic Party, SDP.
The Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District at the Senate, Senator Adegbenka Kaka, who gave this hint on Monday at his Ijebu Igbo residence while briefing journalists after a stakeholders’ meeting of party elders drawn from the nine local government areas of the district, said the faction was being wooed by various opposition political parties, admitting that SDP remained the most appealing.
“Platform is platform and there is no party that is a no-go-area for us. Why are they worried? Somebody came from a party and joined the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria and got elected. If they could move, why can’t others move?
“But so far so good, SDP is the most appealing and our state executives are actually formalising the process of getting things done. Don’t let me talk emphatically but it is the most appealing as far as our group is concerned,” Kaka said.
Though he said that the faction would still meet with the APC’s National Reconciliatory Committee later this week, Kaka added that the faction’s final decision would be guided by the opinion of its major stakeholders.
He said, “But since we have not closed the door to those that are coming, we will listen to them. There is nothing impossible under the sun and since we are God-fearing people, we will give peace a chance and give God the opportunity to direct us to the right path.”
Kaka also denied rumours in some quarters that the faction loyal to the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun had approached their own group for reconciliatory talks, reiterating that the group would not rescind its decision, if alleged injustice being perpetrated in the state chapter of the party was not addressed.
Kaka debunked claims that he was nursing a governorship ambition, stressing that he has not discussed his next political move with anyone.
