Ogun cautions real estate developers over unlawful practice

The Ogun State Government has caution Real Estate developers in the State, to desist from unlawful activities, that can tarnish the image of the sector.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL. Olatunji Odunlami stated this at the commissioning of an electrification project by Pelcan Brief Estate, Kobape, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the State, reaffirming that the law stipulates that anyone with landed property of more than one hectare must apply for layout permit from the State Government before selling or developing such land.

Odunlami who expressed displeasure over the manner which real estate developers were advertising landed property for sale, without following the due process.

“It has come to the notice of this Ministry the unwholesome activities of developers in the State, as they go about advertising lands without obtaining proper approval of the government. We are set to take drastic steps to curb this”, the Commissioner said.

He stated that 98 percent of Real Estate developers operating in the State have no layout approval, saying ” the act is counter-productive to the proper urban development management drive of government”
.
Odunlami assured that the government is doing everything possible to create an enabling environment for Public Private Partnership, for the growth and development of the State, advising that due process should be followed in any building construction, to avert its consequences.

He commended the Chairman of Pelcan Brief Estate, Tunde Adeyemo, for his diligent and persistent at ensuring that requirements needed to develop the estate is observed.

Earlier in his opening remarks, Adeyemo, appreciated the State Government for providing an enabling environment for Real Estate Developers to thrive in the State.
