Ogunsakin, new Rivers CP warns against corruption, indiscipline

The new Rivers Commissioner of Police, Tunde Ogunsakin, has warned officers and men of the State Police Command that he will not tolerate indiscipline and corruption in the state command.

Ogunsakin issued this warning while interacting with officers and men of the Nigeria Police on assumption of duty at the State Police Command in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Ogunsakin stressed that he had zero tolerance for corruption and cautioned that any policeman found to be corrupt and lacking in integrity would be dealt with.

He urged men and officer in the command to be firm, bold and courageous, advising them to always exhibit a high sense of confidence and integrity in their profession.

Ogunsakin stated that he expected ‘total’ loyalty among officers and men of the command, maintaining that commitment to their job should be their watchword.

“I have zero tolerance for corruption. If you lack in integrity and are found corrupt, you will be dealt with. You must exhibit a high sense of confidence and integrity in the profession. Be bold, firm and courageous.

“No act of indiscipline will be tolerated in this command. Everybody must be committed to his or her job. I expect total loyalty among officers and men of this Command.

“Any officer that abandons his duty post will be dealt with. Everybody must be directed to the command for prompt action,” the new police commissioner said.

Ogunsakin, who officially took over from Joseph Mbu on Wednesday, promised to continue to promote the welfare of policemen in order to encourage them to dedicated to the job of securing lives and property.

However, policemen at the command showed signs of depression when the immediate past commissioner of police finally left the command.

One of them said Mbu ensured that their allowances were paid promptly, adding that the former CP gave the State Police Command a facelift when he assumed duty in February 2013.

Meanwhile, the Mbu departure to Abuja was devoid of the normal fanfare like the presentation of his achievements and giving advice to his successor.

The immediate past CP left after signing out at the corridor leading to the State Police Commissioner’s office.
