The deputy speaker of the House of Representatives and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, was on Tuesday stunned when the crowd at his campaign rally cheered Governor Rochas Okorocha instead of Ihedioha.

The campaign train which temporarily paralysed economic activities in the ever busy roads of Daouglas, Mbaise and Okige with the long motorcade saw heavy traffic gridlock on the roads as the crowd along the major roads chanted “Owelle we know; APC is the party”.

The chanting crowd brandished brooms and posters of Okorocha, while some people in the crowd were seen sweeping away the dust raised by the campaign train with their brooms.

The situation later degenerated into a competition of brooms and umbrellas as the PDP supporters responded by brandishing their umbrellas.

One of the Okorocha supporters who simply identified himself as Williams said they reacted that way to express their support for the governor who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He said that “Since 12 years that they (PDP) have been in power, what did they do? We don’t want empty promises again; we want action.”

However, the campaign train which also comprised of other PDP candidates that won their primaries terminated at the secretariat of the party along Okigwe road.
