The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Samuel Adesina is dead. A statement by the state government stated that Adesina’s death occurred after a long battle with cancer of urinary bladder.
It was however unclear where the eminent lawmaker died as government officials refuted claims that Adesina died at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos.
The late Speaker, who the state government described as a bridge builder, represented Odigbo Constituency 11 during his life time.
The statement read, “The late Speaker, during his life time, was a bridge builder, a man of integrity and a reliable team player, who placed the interest of the state above personal consideration.
“The untimely death of the Speaker occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, February 25, 2014 during a protracted battle with the cancer of the urinary bladder.
“The Ondo State Government received the news with rude shock and disbelief and commiserates with the family of the late Speaker, the state legislature as well as the entire people of the state on this irreparable loss.”
Adesina was a member of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) before he decamped to the ruling Labour Party(LP) on April 8, 2010 to pave way for his emergence as Speaker of the Assembly and sources claimed that the late Speaker evaded many impeachment plots due to his alleged closeness to Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
In the history of the State, the late Adesina was the first to have spent three years in that position without being impeached.
He was also the first legislator voted three consecutive times by his people to represent them in the state Assembly.
