The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal has reportedly told on Monday a meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC), Sokoto State chapter that he was already one of them.
Honourable Tambuwal is currently a member of the People’s Democratic PArty (PDP)
His presence at the meeting of the opposition party in his home state is expected to pave way for his eventual defection from PDP to APC.
The Speaker was reported to have told people at the meeting that he should be seen “as one of you, starting from today.”
The rumour of Tambuwal’s defection to APC started gathering early this year when he openly criticized President Jonathan’s handling of issues of corruption.
Tambuwal, regarded as the new face of Northern politics, is seen as the most acceptable among Northern politicians.
Sources said he may declare for the presidency if he eventually defects formally to APC. It is believed that the youthful Speaker’s unblemished record will also count in his favour and may be backed by APC’s hierarchy.
