Orimoogunje, UNILAG professor and ICE director, is dead

Oladele Orimoogunje, the director of the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has passed away. 

The varsity, in a statement published on its website, disclosed that Orimoogunje died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in the early hours of Tuesday.

The cause of his death was, however, not revealed.

In the statement, Folasade Ogunsola, the university vice-chancellor, also sent her condolences to the family of the deceased.

“On behalf of the entire University of Lagos community, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, commiserates with the Orímóògùnjẹ́ family and prays for the repose of the soul of Prof. Ọládélé Caleb Orímóògùnjẹ́,” the statement added

Orimoogunje was a professor of African Studies at the department of Linguistics, African and Asian Studies at UNILAG.

The VC had earlier approved the renewal of Orimoogunje’s appointment as ICE director.

The appointment took effect from May 1, 2023, and was expected to run until April 30, 2025.
