The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, is to represent President Muhammadu Buhari at the inauguration of a new and democratically elected president of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré.
According to a release by the Vice Presidential Spokesman, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo is leading the Nigerian delegation to the inauguration, which takes place on Tuesday at the Ouaga 2000 sports stadium, Ouagadougou.
Kaboré emerged last month after general elections in the West African nation.
Earlier in September, Buhari had presided over an Extra-ordinary session of ECOWAS leaders in Abuja regarding a military coup that took place that month in Burkina Faso.
The meeting called for the restoration of civil rule and supported the progress of the political transition which culminated in the November presidential and parliamentary elections in the country.
The vice president represented President Buhari at the follow-up meeting of select ECOWAS leaders in the nation’s capital, Ouagadougou.
That meeting contributed to the termination of the military coup and restoration of Burkina Faso’s democratic transition.
The vice president is expected in Ouagadougou for the one-day visit, said the statement.
