Three former governors of Ogun State stayed aways from the special State Executive Council meeting held on Monday to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the creation of the state.
They are Chief Olusegun Osoba, Col. Raji Rasaki (retd.) and Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the predecessor of the incumbent Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.
The special exco meeting held at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, had in attendance, former military governors Seidu Adeolu Balogun, General Oladipo Diya (retd), Oladayo Popoola, Oladehinde Joseph, Daniel Akintonde, Sam Ewang and Kayode Olofinmoyin.
A minute silence was observed in honour of the departed ex-governors, Brigadier Harris Egbagha; the first civilian governor of the state, Chief Olabisi Onabanjo and Navy Captain Mohammed Lawal.
The special session, which was aired live on both OGTV and OGBC, had each of the past administrators sharing their experiences with the present executive council members on how they fared as governors of the state.
They all commended the present administration in the state led by Senator Ibikunle Amosun for the giant strides in moving the state forward.
The past administrators spoke one after the other and identified areas where the state needed to work upon to improve its fortune.
In his remark, Governor Amosun thanked them for honouring the state and pledged his administration’s commitment to continue to work for the progress of the state.
The governor acknowledged the selfless service rendered by the past leaders and assured that the foundation laid by them would not be destroyed.
He however decorated his predecessors with state’s crest and gave them plaques.
Non former governors also at the special session were: Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, Senators representing Ogun Central and West Senatorial districts, Prince Lanre Tejuoso and Prince Gbolahan Dada. The Senator representing Ogun East, Prince Buruji Kashamu, was absent.
Ogun state was created out of the defunct Western Region on 3 February, 1976 by the Murtala Mohammed administration shortly after which he was assassinated in a coup on 13 February same year.
The state was administered by the military for 22 years while the civilians have governed it for 18 years.
