A group of pensioners in Osun State under the eagis of Nigerian Union of Pensioners Triangular Group have distanced themselves from what they called the anti-Aregbesola’s protest rally in Osogbo over the unpaid workers’ and pensioners’ salaries.
The pensioners at a press briefing said it is highly necessary to dissociate themselves from politically motivated protest said to be embarked on by some people alleged to be pensioners.
The group headed by Prince Rotimi Adelugba disclosed that all those who are protesting on behalf of the pensioners were a group being allegedly sponsored by the opposition party in Osun.
According to him, the Triangular group, which comprises pensioners in all the Local governments of the state, identified the developmental strides of the current administration in the state.
He stated that the non payment of salary, though affects thousands of workers in the state, is not peculiar to Osun alone and for that reason must be understood.
He argued that the financial impasse affected nearly half of the state of the Federation and the federal government.
The pensioners boss said with the bail out announced by the Federal Government, the state will soon get out of the financial logjam.
In his words, “we dissociate ourselves from the politically motivated pensioners’ protest in Osun. The protesting group is alleged to have been sponsored by some opposition political party who do not want the state to be peaceful.
“We appreciate the good governance and the developmental stride of governor Aregbesola in the past five years.
“We make bold to say that he has been fair to the pensioners, having implemented 142 percent increase in pension from 200 million Naira monthly to 520 million.
“We express solidarity with the governor and pray that God will help him to steer the ship of the state safely and successfully”.
He enjoined all well meaning and good people of Osun, workers, artisans and clergy to pray for Aregbesola.
