Former Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, has accused the Ebonyi State Peoples Democratic Party of scheming him out of the PDP governorship race in the state.
Chukwu, in a statement on Wednesday specifically accused some individuals in the party, whom he did not mention, of working against his being the PDP governorship candidate of Ebonyi.
“It is common knowledge that I am not yet the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State in the 2015 general elections neither am I the governorship candidate of any other party for that matter.
“However, in the process, I was schemed out of the race through the manipulation of the process by some individuals who, for their own reasons, opposed my governorship aspiration.”
Chukwu resigned last year to respond to what he called “the passionate invitation by the majority of Ebonyi State PDP faithful and the generality of Ebonyians to contest the Ebonyi State governorship election on the platform of the PDP.”
He also complained that the PDP hierarchy had not responded quickly enough to his petition seeking redress.
“I have decided to seek redress within the PDP. Indeed, I petitioned the National Chairman of the party on December 9, 2014, a petition which I copied other party leaders.
“However, apart from an acknowledgement copy of my petition, the party has not responded to the petition. I am still hopeful that the party will grant me fair hearing which is indeed my right as a member of the party,” he said in the statement.
While hoping that the party at the national level will look into his petition, he assured the PDP and his loyalists that he was still a member of the PDP.
