The Director-General, National Pension Commission (PenCom), Chinelo-Anohu-Amazu, on Friday pledged to rebrand and strengthen the administration of pension system in Nigeria.
Anohu-Amazu made the promise in Lagos at the launch of a new logo for the commission and media interaction heralding the 2015 “WorldPensionSummit.”
She said that the commission would continue to promote, sustain and professionalise pension regulations and supervision in the country.
According to her, the Pencom laws are undergoing reforms to further strengthen Nigeria’s pension administration system.
Anohu-Amazu said the pension administration would be made transparent, accountable and responsive to the needs of retirees.
She warned that non-remittance of deducted pension contributions by employers of labour would henceforth be treated as an act of economic sabotage.
She disclosed that the commission had established a call centre in Abuja to receive genuine complains from aggrieved pension beneficiaries and resolve same with minimal delay.
She gave the number of the call centre as: 07000-2255-736266 and 0700-call-PenCom.
However, the director-general advised employees to blow the whistle in cases of default by their respective employers to safeguard their future.
Anohu-Amazu advised state governors and leaders in the private sector to key into the new pension system to promote the welfare of their workers.
She said that about 63 percent of the N5 trillion pension funds are being invested in Federal Government bonds and other zero-risk capital markets to boost the system.
According to her, no single fraud case had been recorded since the inception of the scheme in 2004 because of the safety valves put in place.
On the logo, Anohu-Amazu said the new features include solid bars depicting strength, grey signifying transparency and Nigeria’s coat of arm symbolising authority.
