A 29-year-old Ecobank employee, Olaide Ogundare, on Monday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, over the alleged theft of N650,000 belonging to the bank.
Ogundare, of No. 3, Alanda Close, Palmgrove, Lagos, who was a bulk teller with the bank, is facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Babaji Ishiaku, said that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 9, at a branch of the bank located in Lekki, Lagos.
“The accused stole N650, 000, belonging to Ecobank, Lekki Branch, Lagos. He was suspected to have stolen the money during investigations by the bank officials and was handed over to the Police.
“Investigation is still ongoing as more facts and evidence will be brought to the court on the next adjourned date,” Ishiaku said.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Magistrate, Miss O.O. Fowowe, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 17, for mention.
