The Edo Government on Thursday presented N10 million cheque to 268 victims of Ozalla rainstorm in Owan West Local Government Area of the state.
The victims were also presented with relief materials such as mattresses, food items, roofing sheets, beverages, toiletries and clothing materials.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties and State Emergencies, Hajiya Memuna Momodu, who presented the cheque, said the gesture was a fulfillment of government’s pledge to the victims.
Momodu advised the victims to use the funds judiciously and ensure that protective measures were put in place to avoid re-occurrence.
She also urged them to install roof re-enforcement and plant trees around their houses to serve as wind breakers.
She said that 35 people received N60,000 each and five bundles of roofing sheets and other items, while 85 others got N30,000 each and two and half bundles of roofing sheets.
The other N168 people received 20,000 each and one bundle of roofing sheets each and other items.
She said the first category had their roofs completely blown off, the second category had their roofs partially blown off, and the last had few sheets blown off from their apartments.
